About the USB-RS485 WE Cable

The USB-RS485-WE cable provides a USB-to-RS-485 serial interface for connecting a laptop or PC to Alliance Sensors Group's SC-200 and S2A LVDT signal conditioners, enabling remote configuration, calibration, and diagnostics through ASG's Windows configuration software without requiring dedicated RS-485 interface hardware. The cable includes the USB-to-RS-485 level conversion electronics in the cable housing itself, so no separate adapter card or external power supply is needed.

RS-485 Communication with ASG Signal Conditioners

The SC-200 and S2A signal conditioners include a half-duplex RS-485 port for remote communication that allows all calibration parameters to be read, set, and saved from a connected PC. This enables a workflow where a signal conditioner's configuration is loaded from a saved file during replacement rather than requiring manual recalibration of the new module — a significant time saving during planned maintenance outages in power plants and other facilities where calibration procedures are formal and documentation-intensive.

Software Functionality

The configuration software accessed through the USB-RS485-WE cable allows the technician to read the current calibration settings, set zero and span values numerically rather than by button-press calibration, save module configurations to file for documentation and backup, and monitor the real-time sensor output and diagnostic status. The ability to save and load configurations supports hot-swap replacement of signal conditioner modules without requiring the physical calibration setup that would otherwise be needed for each replacement module.
