The surface mount fast response stick thermocouple features a thin, flexible substrate design that maximizes thermal contact with flat surfaces while minimizing thermal mass at the measurement junction. This results in response times significantly faster than conventional pad-style surface thermocouples, which rely on thicker metallic elements.
The integrated mini Type K connector allows direct connection to compatible pyrometers and data acquisition systems without the need for adapter cables, simplifying installation and system integration.
Fast Response Surface Temperature Measurement
Traditional surface thermocouples with thick pads act as thermal ballast, requiring the pad to reach the surface temperature before the sensing junction responds. This introduces measurable lag, particularly on surfaces with lower thermal conductivity or rapidly changing temperatures.
The stick thermocouple’s thin substrate and low thermal mass minimize this effect, allowing it to track surface temperature changes more quickly and accurately. This makes it well suited for applications involving dynamic thermal conditions, such as rotating components, electronic assemblies, and industrial process surfaces.
Attachment and Application
The stick thermocouple can be mounted using high-temperature adhesive tape or thermal cement, depending on the application.
Adhesive tape allows for quick installation and removal, making it ideal for temporary measurements or testing scenarios without permanent modification to the surface.
Thermal cement provides improved long-term thermal contact for permanent installations, though it requires more effort to remove or replace the sensor.
The flexible design allows the sensor to conform to flat and moderately curved surfaces, minimizing air gaps that can introduce thermal resistance and reduce measurement accuracy.
