LVDT Position Sensor FAQ

Ball Joint Coupling for ASG's PG and LA-27 Series Power Gen LVDT

The drawing below shows the BJ(6XL) ball joint coupling for ASG's PG and LA-27 series power gen LVDTs. This new coupling is the proposed replacement for the current BJ(6L) ball joint coupling, which is becoming unavailable. It has a 1-inch deep 3/8-24 UNF-2B thread on one end and a 5/16-24 UNF-2B on the other to fit PG or LA-27 series male core rod threads. Although it is 1-inch longer overall, the deeper 3/8-24-UNF female thread permits a greater range of adjustment for the valve actuator's connecting rod. It is sturdier than earlier ball joints and has a more durable boot, but it is a little bit stiffer. We also propose to offer a rigid nut coupling, RN(6XL), with the same overall length as the BJ(6XL) i.e.: 3-1/2 inches, for dimensional interchangeability. Because the PG and LA-27 series LVDTs already come with a 5/16-24 UNF-2A x 9/16 inches long male thread on the end of their core rods, a customer could choose their own alternative coupling element if their application warrants it.

We are currently evaluating our offering of couplings and expect to drop some from the line, including most metric rigid nuts and ball joints. We will advise our power gen customers about which couplings will be available from ASG when our analysis is concluded.
